ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alan Harrington is Ojibway, hailing from the region covered by Treaty No. 3 in northwestern Ontario and a survivor of the 60s scoop. He has been residing in Kanehsatake, Quebec, for fifteen years, actively engaging in the Montreal area.
As the founder of The Red Urban Project, he reintroduced the Pow-Wow to the Kanehsatake community in 2009 and has been hosting this cultural event annually. Alan is also the organizer/founder of Montreal’s Pow-Wow and Round Dance events since 2013. He also played a role in establishing the first territorial recognition in Hawkesbury, Ontario.
Passionate about teaching Indigenous culture, he shares his knowledge on crafting hand drums, hoops for hoop dancing, and dreamcatchers. A staunch advocate for land and water rights, he organizes events and promotes these causes to the public, hoping that his children will continue his passion by spreading knowledge and raising awareness among their peers. Additionally, he worked with the Native Friendship Center of Montreal for several years, aiding the homeless population.
