Alan Syliboy

His work is influenced by the stone drawing and feather weaving of the Mi’kmaq of his native Nova Scotia. Working in acrylic and mixed media, Alan creates brightly colored images exploring themes of family, searching, spirituality, struggle and strength. The use of layered elements creates depth and texture.

In 2007, Alan illustrated the novel “The Stone Canoe: Two Lost Mi’kmaq tales” and developed a connection with the character of Little Thunder. He worked on the animation “Little Thunder” for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. The animation was presented in 40 different festivals around the world and was voted best animation in Montreal in 2011.
