ABOUT THE ARTIST
Young Inuit artist from Kuujjuaq, Quebec, Tanya Mesher Jones is known throughout Nunavik for her abstract acrylic artworks under the name Innaarulik. Her pieces depict northern scenes painted with simplicity, vibrant colors, and movement. Innaarulik’s paintings have been featured in numerous galleries and were showcased at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Tanya portrays traditional Inuit culture but is unafraid to explore and create new concepts. She aims to showcase her nation and how it has adapted to the modern world, seeking to merge past and contemporary elements.
“I would like to inspire Indigenous peoples to learn more about us and to respect all that we have experienced in such a short time.”
In 2015, Innaarulik founded OKA (Original Killer Apparel), fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a fashion designer. The brand, whose name stands for Original Killer Apparel, is designed for Inuit to wear, reflecting their lifestyle of hunting to live and living to hunt. She also designs accessories, including beaded earrings, phone cases, caps, and more.
